A large rotating crescent-shaped structure with integrated lighting — a custom project created by our workshop for circus performances and stage shows.
Circus props can be more than just equipment used to perform an act — they can also become an important part of stage design. One of our projects of this kind is the Freestanding Crescent Moon with a rotation mechanism and integrated lighting.
Its distinctive silhouette, impressive size, movement, and lighting turn the structure into a striking stage element that can serve as the centerpiece of a performance.
Crescent-shaped structure
The frame is made of carbon steel and consists of several parallel curved sections connected by crossbars.
During the manufacturing process, special attention was paid to the geometry of the structure. The curved sections create a recognizable and well-proportioned crescent silhouette while providing the rigidity required for a large metal frame.
The metal components are powder-coated, providing a smooth decorative finish and additional protection for the steel surface.
Disassemblable structure
One of the key features of this project is its fully disassemblable design.
For a large-scale circus prop, the ability to take the structure apart is especially important, as it makes transportation and storage considerably easier.
From the design stage, the Freestanding Crescent Moon was divided into separate components. The curved sections, supports, and base components can be disassembled for transportation and then reassembled directly at the performance venue using the connections and fasteners incorporated into the design.
This solution is particularly convenient for touring circus acts and shows, where equipment is regularly transported between different venues.
Rotation mechanism
Another important feature of the project is the integrated rotation mechanism.
It allows the Freestanding Crescent Moon to rotate around its vertical axis, making the movement of the structure itself part of the circus act.
As a result, the prop is not simply a static stage decoration but a dynamic element of the performance. Rotation can change the visual composition of the act, emphasize the artist’s movements, and create an additional stage effect.
Integrated lighting
The structure features integrated lighting along its contours, highlighting the curved crescent shape and making the prop particularly striking on a darkened stage.
The lighting visually defines the silhouette of the large metal structure and, when combined with rotation, creates an additional dynamic effect during the performance.
The lighting is integrated directly into the prop’s structure, preserving its overall geometry while becoming an integral part of the stage design.
The combination of shape, movement, and light is one of the defining features of this project.
Stable metal base
A separate metal base with widely spaced supports was developed to support the structure.
The rotation unit is located in the central part of the base, while the support system provides the required footprint for the large vertical structure.
The base is also disassemblable, allowing it to be separated into individual components along with the main frame of the Freestanding Crescent Moon for transportation.
From an idea to a finished circus prop
The Freestanding Crescent Moon is an example of a project that required us to combine several objectives: creating a recognizable stage shape, manufacturing a large metal frame, incorporating a rotation mechanism and lighting, and making the entire structure disassemblable for transportation.
The result is a circus prop that combines metalwork, mechanics, lighting, and stage design.
