Two-tier circus table: from a sketch to a finished structure
Sometimes the most interesting projects start not with a detailed technical drawing, but with a simple hand-drawn sketch. That was the case with this circus table, which we made to order.
The client sent us their own drawing with ideas for the shape and arrangement of the main elements. Our task was to turn that idea into a stable, functional, real-world structure, while preserving the original concept of the sketch as closely as possible.
It took almost four months to complete the table, as the design involved a number of custom engineering solutions.
An unusual two-tier design
One of the main features of this piece of circus equipment is its two-tier design, with one level positioned above the other. The table itself is quite tall, while the upper tier is supported by additional vertical posts.
This presented several technical challenges at once: the table needed to be two-tiered, stable, and fully disassemblable, so that it could be transported and assembled conveniently.
We developed an engineering solution that allows the entire table to be taken apart into separate components. The legs and other elements can be removed, while the vertical posts are installed into the table structure and support the upper tier.
When assembled, the table has a distinctive silhouette reminiscent of a multi-tiered celebration cake. At the same time, its unusual shape is combined with a carefully designed, modular construction that makes the equipment easier to transport and assemble.
Legs that also serve as steps
Another interesting feature is the table’s removable legs.
The design incorporates round elements that also serve a practical purpose — they function as steps for climbing onto the table. In other words, the components that create the distinctive appearance of the table are not merely decorative; they are functional as well.
Their placement and construction were carefully designed so that they fit naturally into the overall design while performing their intended function.
The table stands on three legs, with the structure designed to provide stability.
Cane holders — a modern solution using 3D printing
The cane holders presented another custom design challenge.
The client wanted them positioned exactly as shown in the original sketch. To achieve this, we decided to use 3D printing.
The holders were 3D-printed from plastic with 100% infill, resulting in strong components suitable for use as part of the structure.
However, manufacturing the holders was only part of the process. To make sure the plastic components matched the color of the table, we selected a paint in a matching shade.
The finishing process involved several stages:
- Surface preparation.
- Application of a special primer for plastic.
- Application of the matching paint.
- A second coat of paint to achieve an even finish.
- Application of a final protective clear coat.
As a result, we were able not only to manufacture the holders in the required shape, but also to visually integrate them into the overall design of the table.
Removable mounts for hoops and rings
According to the client’s design, the table also needed to be equipped with mounts for hula hoops or rings.
It was important for these mounts to be removable, durable, and suitable for long-term use. Special attention was also given to protecting the metal components against corrosion.
The mounts were made from steel and then finished with powder coating. This type of coating not only provides the desired appearance but also offers additional protection for the metal surface.
Custom circus equipment
This project clearly demonstrates how important it is to combine creative design ideas with engineering solutionswhen creating custom circus equipment. The client’s sketch became the basis for a complex, multifunctional structure in which every element has a specific purpose.
We manufacture circus equipment based on individual sketches and technical requirements provided by our clients. If you cannot find a ready-made solution in our catalog, we can develop a custom design for your specific needs, taking into account its shape, dimensions, functionality, disassembly, transportation, and intended use.
